WOMEN’S INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE FOR PEACE & FREEDOM UNITED STATES SECTION THIRTY-SECOND TRIENNIAL CONGRESS DETROIT, MICHIGAN August 3, 2014

Resolution passed unanimously by voice vote

WHEREAS, two-thirds of the earth’s surface is covered by water, and

WHEREAS, water is the essence of human existence, animals, organisms, and plants, and

WHEREAS, science and technology must continue to assure clean and safe water and the interdependent ecosystems, and

WHEREAS, the Women’s International league for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) is one of the first nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to have been granted consultative status at the United Nations (UN),

BE IT RESOLVED THAT,

Access to water is a basic human right and a pathway to health and wellbeing;

Addressing the abuse of this human right shall be a top priority in the programs of WILPF in the global community;

On March 22, 2015, Global WILPF will observe and celebrate the UN WORLD DAY FOR WATER, which was established in 1993; and

THEREFORE,

The Thirty-second Triennial WILPF-US Congress urges all branches, regions, and at-large members to initiate programs and events in collaboration with community partners around water issues and to inform our WILPF United Nations Office (UNO) staff of these activities.
