WILPF US School of Peace and Freedom: A Recap

By Shelby Young, WILPF US field organizer and Greater Phoenix Branch member

To kick off Women’s History Month, WILPF US launched our first School of Peace and Freedom—a multigenerational panel and class experience designed to shape how we organize for change in our communities. We were joined by three incredible speakers:

  • Isabel Belmonte: Scholar and researcher rooted in gender theory and political advocacy, with deep experience in gender-based violence prevention
  • Sofia F: Development Director at Mondoweiss and longtime advocate for Palestinian liberation, with expertise in program design and community organizing
  • Judith McDaniel: Professor and legal scholar specializing in gender studies and international human rights law

Following the panel, Judith led a powerful teach-in on legal observers and Know Your Rights strategies—equipping participants with tools to organize safely and effectively in today’s climate. If you missed it, you can watch a recording of the event.

WILPF US’s School of Peace and Freedom will now be offered quarterly as a space to bridge generations and strengthen our collective organizing. Hope to see you at the next one!
