During Indigenous Peoples Month, this One WILPF Zoom will tie indigenous wisdom, activism and ritual to a comparison of Thanksgiving, and will offer information about new legal rights of nature suit in Minnesota against Enbridge Pipeline 5, as well as an Armistice Day memorial for peace activists we lost recently.    

Ojibwe tribal attorney Frank Bibeau (with Honor Earth) will describe the case he’s waging against the Enbridge Pipeline 5, in defense of their treaty-protected crop of sacred wild rice in Minnesota.  Enbridge has filed documents that report on their plans to extract (steal) millions of gallons of precious water along the pipeline route, part of which goes through the wild rice crop.  This case is one of only a handful in the country that asserts the ‘rights of nature’.  We’ll be anxious to hear more.

And just in time for Thanksgiving, Skiowis (Christine) Nobiss of Great Plains Action  will talk about the colonialist and white racist origins of Thanksgiving, and will describe how native ritual and ceremony has strengthened and comforted indigenous people throughout their history.

Since it’s also Armistice Daywe’ll open with a short tribute to Sister Megan Ricea tireless peace activist who passed away recently.   There will also be important announcements and discussion of upcoming 2022 Solidarity Action plans.
