Are you seeing it? Feeling it? No kings! No ICE! No wars on… We are part of a growing “good trouble” movement (thank you, John Lewis!). I hope you are wearing your WILPF button and engaging in conversations about our anti-war and anti-nuke initiatives, which include our efforts to address the root causes of war. For me, a fulfilling day includes introducing someone to WILPF, having a meaningful conversation, and sharing my WILPF business card while obtaining their contact information.
The Membership Committee is enthusiastically promoting the “Peace is / Peace is Not” campaign, and we are seeing an increase in new memberships. Starting this week, when new members join, they will receive a welcome letter that includes a link to a four minute video orientation to WILPF. Shortly after that, Shelby Young, our field organizer, will reach out to welcome them, share a video, provide her phone number for any questions, and give information about a local WILPF branch. A few weeks later, they will receive a WILPF packet by mail.
Welcoming new members who want to help create a more just and peaceful world is energizing. Connecting with other members in branches is also vital for maintaining enthusiasm and is a priority for our membership efforts. Politics and life challenges can drain our energy, but those connections and actions—whether small or large—can be meaningful and uplifting. Renewing WILPF membership is a focus for our committee as we work to grow the movement, and we need funding to continue our efforts. Joining and renewing your membership is easy—there is a button to join or renew on the upper right of our website’s homepage.
I invite all of you to help build membership and expand the “good trouble” movement.
