Invite your friends and allies to this free event!

This campaign kickoff event spotlights inspiring women who are educating, mobilizing, and uplifting others in the fight for women, peace, and democracy. Together, we’ll explore today’s challenges, reflect on past victories, and discover how to build joy into our collective work and solidarity. This event is free and open to the public! Share with your community networks and friends. The more of us that unite, the greater our power to mobilize together.

Wednesday April 29th at 4pm PT / 7pm ET on zoom.

Featuring:

Author Lisa Graves will speak on the forces reshaping our democracy. Lisa is one of the nation’s foremost experts on the right-wing influence on the US Supreme Court and other levers of power. She has served as a senior advisor in all three branches of the federal government, including as chief counsel for nominations for the Senate Judiciary Committee. Lisa’s latest book, Without Precedent: How Chief Justice Roberts and His Accomplices Rewrote the Constitution and Dismantled Our Rights, was published last Fall.

WILPF Detroit Chair Laura Dewey will speak on anti-war resistance. During the Vietnam war, Laura’s mom, Hope Dewey, started Eastside for Peace and mobilized against war while being surveilled by government agencies. Laura, second generation WILPF member and chair of WILPF’s Detroit branch, continues her mother’s legacy organizing on the frontlines in her community. From Vietnam to Palestine to Iran, Laura will draw parallels through these wars across time, and what we need today to revitalize the anti-war peace movement.

A special moment of joy and history with comedian Robyn Scott as she connects us to the legacy of creative resistance rooted in Jane Addams’ Hull House. Robyn, a Second City Alumni, leads The Larapyn Group where she convenes artists and experts to transform movements and organizations. Did you know Hull House was the birthplace of modern improv? She’ll uncover for WILPF one of the lesser-known legacies of Hull House and remind us why we need joy to resist.

Your hosts for this special event are WILPF US’s Executive Director Linda Low and Field Organizer Shelby Young!

This event kicks off a bold campaign goal for 2026 at an urgent moment in our history. WILPF US speaks out when others cannot. We must keep the momentum and outreach going now, for the next three years of this Administration, and beyond. Throughout this year, our goal is to raise $250,000 to scale up our collective action. We invite you donate to our Spring Appeal. Or mail your check to WILPF US, P.O. Box 13075, Des Moines IA 50310. A one-time donation will give us a much-needed financial boost. A recurring donation will sustain our work for the long-term. For women, peace and democracy. We can’t do this without you!
